We can neither stop nor reverse time. We must accept the scars it will leave on our skin and be grateful that we are still alive. Of course, aging our skin before its time is a completely different story, and there is no shame in taking care of it and learning what we are doing wrong. So, if you’re doing any of the following, keep reading to find out why you should stop.
We are constantly rubbing our eyes. Constant rubbing not only irritates them and transfers pathogens from our hands, but it also causes dark circles and wrinkles. Bags under the eyes are normal as we age and our skin loses its plasticity, but rubbing hastens this process. The skin in the surrounding area is extremely sensitive and easily inflamed. And, of course, we never leave home without our sunglasses.
We aren’t getting enough sleep. Our bodies “rebuild” themselves while we sleep, somehow repairing the damage done during the day. The same holds true for our skin. Our skin suffers when we sleep for a few hours or poorly. We’ve all seen how dull our faces can become after a night out, so imagine what can happen if the problem persists.
Straws hasten the development of wrinkles around the mouth. That is just one more reason to disconnect them. Less plastic means fewer wrinkles. (We won’t say we like paper straws, but that’s a different story.)
Constant stress causes skin damage. How does this happen? When we are stressed, our bodies release the hormone cortisol. One of its actions is the breakdown of collagen, which causes our skin to relax. Of course, this is one of the final reasons why chronic stress must be identified and effectively treated. But it is a fact.
Makeup isn’t the same as sunscreen. Yes, most makeup products provide some sun protection, but never to the extent that sunscreen does. Remember to apply sunscreen every time you go outside in the sun.
We ignore the neck and hands. They are the two places where the signs of aging appear the most, because their skin is particularly sensitive but also… neglected. The majority of people forget to apply sunscreen to their neck and hands. hese areas require the same attention as our faces.
We use green soap. No, it isn’t “the best soap.” In general, bar soaps contain much harsher chemicals that can dry out the skin, destroying or removing the skin’s natural oils.
